West Ham United and Arsenal are set to open the Matchday No 22 in the London derby on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams were successful last weekend in the FA Cup against lower-division rivals and will come into this high on confidence.

The Hammers saw off Birmingham City 2-0 at London Stadium thanks to goals from Marko Arnautovic and Andy Carroll.

Manuel Pellegrini, however, faced another problem seven days ago as he had to replace Marko Arnautovic who renewed his injury. The Austrian striker bagged three goals in last two games and the new injury will be a massive blow for team’s ambitions in this city derby.

The Gunners did not have any troubles at Bloomfield Road where they stormed past League One rivals Blackpool 0-3 last weekend.

Unai Emery rested his main stars as youngster Joseph Willock took advantage of the chance to make the starting line-up with a first-half brace.

West Ham vs Arsenal Stats

  • Arsenal were the dominant force in the history of head to head games with the Hammers.
  • The Gunners won five and drew one of past six meetings with West Ham United.
  • Four of these wins, however, came on the home patch, including the 3-1 victory in late-August last year.
  • Five of last seven head to head outings saw three or more goals scored.

Arsenal kept ground on Chelsea in the battle for the top-four finish with a comprehensive 4-1 victory over strugglers Fulham in the previous round. Both Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were on the scoreline in a demolishing victory at Emirates Stadium.

Emery’s men are, however, struggling for consistency on travels as they are winless in last four league games on the road. The team allowed as many as 21 goals in 10 away matches so far in the season. All of these ten ties saw goals scored at both ends.

There is no reason for us to expect a different scenario this time around as West Ham’s matches were also full on goalmouth action of late. The Hammers shipped two or more goals in five of last six home fixtures in the Premier League. Both teams to score looks to be just the way to go here.
